Php/MySQL Group by month and year?

I have a database of information of sales per month for the last few months. I am looking for a script in Php that will start will search a mysql database table for a list of months and years. It will then start with the oldest and print out the information. 2009-Oct 1. Sale $100 10/1/2009 2....
