Site map access blocked by 301 redirect

Im having some trouble with google sitemaps. Everytime I submit my sitemap to google it takes a good hour to tell me that it couldnt download it. I have a redirect on my main domain, pointing all users to a subfolder within the site, so Im guessing its also redirecting the googlebot crawler....
