In Word 2003, default font reverts from Optima to Times New Roman

I use Word 2003 and want to set the default font to Optima (the template being Normal) but as soon as I type, the font changes to Times New Roman, the template changes to Normal + Times New Roman. This does NOT happen if I set the default font to Arial so why is it doing it with Optima. By the way...
