Sims 2 Problem

[windows]

I recently purchased the Sims 2 Double Deluxe and all the expansion packs but I am having trouble with families. When I try to move a family into a lot, it often won't load the lot but crashes. Also, if I do get a family in, it won't let me use the play option so the Sim is always on pause mode.
