MAC Unix pkg/ install questions

hi, i just got myself a mac book and don't know much about its unix. first of all, i would really like to know if there is a repository like redhat so i can do "yum" to search and install the repository packages. when i do "uname" it is Darwins i tried to download vnc... should i download...
