if google bannes a site, how long will the ban stay on?

I think one of my websites got banned by google. Not sure, but when i searched certian keyword phrases in google, my site was number one, now most of those key phrases are on page 2 and some of them dont even show up with my site. Also, when you google my domain name, the site isnt even number...
