Can't download video files onto an ipod

I'm trying to download some videos onto an ipod, so I installed the 8.11 version onto my laptop, my friend said it didnt recognise the ipod (80gb), so we uninstalled it and installed his 7.3 version which he 'guaranteed' works. Anyway, that failed, and I am left with this error 'The file "iTunes...
