HELP - Trying to install Wordpress Slider Plugin on Homepage

Hello all. I'm attempting to learn a little bit about php. At present, I am trying to install *Smooth Slider plugin* on my Wordpress Homepage. From what understand, you must add the template tag to the index.php page. But, I'm unsure where to place it. I would like for the slider to show above...
