Dell Inspiron 1501

Hi all, Can anyone tell me how I can test a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop if it has no hard drive? I want to be sure it will work before throwing money at it. It doesn't have an optical drive either. How can I check that the Bios will be ok? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
